Mops do a great job cleaning your floors, but what happens after you’re done using it? Like your other cleaning tools, mops also need to be cleaned. You wouldn’t want to leave nasty streaks on the kitchen floor.

Sure enough, your mops hide a lot of disease-causing bacteria. You might as well think twice not to sanitize them. Fortunately, there are a lot of effective ways to clean and sanitize your mops. Here are a few of them:

1. Use hot water

Since the mop’s head does all the cleaning, it’s a no-brainer that you focus more on cleaning that part by getting rid of dirt and other residues.

Here’s what you will do:

* Rinse your mop’s head with hot water. Leave it soaked until it is completely clean.

2. Wash your mops

Your mops can either have detachable or non-detachable heads, so you will have to use different approaches.

Detachable mop heads

* If your mop’s head is detachable, simply use your washing machine. Give it a gentle spin and follow the cleaning directions for your mop.

If it’s not detachable.

* Soak it in a mixture of half cup bleach and half cup water for 10 minutes, then rinse it well.

Remember:

You can’t use bleach with sponge mops as this will cause the material to deteriorate faster.

3. Clean it using a dishwasher

Did you know you can use your dishwasher to easily clean detachable mop heads?

Here’s what you will do:

Place it on the top rack of your dishwasher. Make sure that your dishwasher is empty. Put one cup of white vinegar on the detergent dispenser. Run it on a normal cycle. Take out the mop head and squeeze off any excess water before hanging out to dry.

You can’t have a clean house if your cleaning tools are dirty. So, it’s important that you clean your tools once in a while and make sure they are ready for anything.
